Rick didn’t know if he was talking this way because he was relaxed, or if it was because he couldn’t take his eyes off the beautiful woman next to him, but words spilled out of his mouth without his control. There was something about her sparkling eyes and raspberry colored lips that brought back the memory of their kiss in the taxi. And dang, if he didn’t want more.

Why not? They were alone in one of his New York apartments, and no other CIA agent was supposed to use this place tonight. So then why couldn’t he get cozy with Michelle? The sultry look in her eyes let him know that she shared the same feelings.

He gave her a lazy grin and gently stroked his thumb along her bottom lip. “What? You’re now at a loss for words?”

She inhaled a ragged breath. “Your statement just took me by surprise.”

“I’m sorry.”

“You are?” she asked.

He hesitated before shaking his head. “Actually, no. I’m not sorry for saying that. Because you are a great kisser.”

She chuckled awkwardly. “Well, I think it was because you were such a great participant.”

He laughed again. “Should we try it again to see if it was as good as we remembered?”

Her face flamed red, but her brilliant gray eyes darkened. He’d never met a woman with such amazing eyes – or one so gorgeous.

“Well you see, Rick, I’m not sure we should. I don’t want to get distracted from our main purpose in working together.”

Although she said the words, she watched his mouth the whole time. Rick never in his life had to force a woman to kiss him, and he wouldn’t do it now – even though she didn’t say the words, she hinted toward giving him a negative answer.

“Being distracted while at work is not a good thing at all. Of course, right now we’re not at work. We’re resting.”

“And because we’re resting,” she said as a smile stretched her mouth, “that might make us a little more vulnerable.”

“Us?” He arched an eyebrow.

She shrugged. “Or maybe just me.”

He continued to stare at her, and it was obvious by her quick breaths that she wanted to kiss as much as he did. But no, he wouldn’t make the first move now. “And I’m not the type of man who takes advantage of vulnerable women.”

Her face relaxed and her eyes twinkled. “That’s good to know.”

After a few silent – intense – seconds of their staring contest, and with him stroking just under her bottom lip, he couldn’t take anymore. He leaned closer but stopped himself. His breaths were choppy, and his control was slipping, but his conscience fought and won.

Sighing with defeat, he withdrew and leaned back against the couch, closing his eyes. He’d be just fine until he looked at her. That was his undoing.

She exhaled slowly and shifted on the couch. He wouldn’t blame her if she wanted to move to another piece of furniture. But then suddenly, she touched his chest and her whole body leaned into his.
